Frank Lampard: 'I want to focus on results, not my future'

Frank Lampard reiterates that he wants to avoid commenting on his long-term future at Everton, acknowledging that it 'is out of his control'.

Frank Lampard preferred to talk up the performance of his Everton players, rather than discuss his future, as his side lost 3-1 to Manchester United in the FA Cup third round on Friday night.

The Toffees went into the tie with just one win coming from 11 games in all competitions, that victory coming back on October 22 versus Crystal Palace.

A ninth defeat during that run was posted at Old Trafford, although Everton were competitive in the game until the closing minutes of added-on time.

The Merseyside outfit reached half time on level terms, Conor Coady cancelling out Antony's early goal, before the Everton defender put through his own net at the other end.

Everton were denied a leveller through an offside decision made by VAR, and Marcus Rashford converted from the penalty spot in the 97th minute to confirm United's place in the next round.

Although Everton were faced with one of the toughest draws possible, Lampard is under pressure due to the club occupying a spot in the Premier League relegation zone.

However, rather than comment on speculation in his post-match interview, Lampard instead praised his side's performance ahead of their next fixture, a home meeting with bottom-team Southampton.

Speaking to ITV, the Englishman said: "That's not under my control. It's not for me to focus on that. It's for me to focus on what I saw tonight and that was a performance that every manager wants with the attitude of the team, and the focus.

"This league can change very quickly and when you're in a difficult run you have to work really hard to get out of it, but it can change.

"I don't want to talk about my future, I only want to talk about the players and how well they played. My focus is on this team and getting a result against Southampton."

Everton will head into the game at Goodison Park having suffered three successive defeats at their home ground, and their opponents can move level on points with them if they end their own three-game losing streak on their travels.
