Everton manager Roberto Martinez has revealed that he would be open to allowing Johnny Heitinga to leave the club if the Dutchman doesn't break into the starting lineup at Goodison Park.
Heitinga has not featured in the Premier League this season, and Martinez has acknowledged that while he would like to keep the Netherlands international at the club, he can understand the 30-year-old's need for first-team action.
The former Wigan Athletic boss told reporters: "Johnny is a top footballer and if he doesn't play many minutes, we will try to see if we can help him in January.
"But ideally, I would like Johnny to start playing and have a big role on the pitch as much as he has off it. Sometimes the fans don't see that side. I really admire and value that."
Heitinga has made 137 appearances for the Toffees since he moved to the club in 2009.
