MLS outfit DC United reportedly want a deal to bring in Wayne Rooney from Everton concluded before their new stadium opens next month.
The 32-year-old rejoined the Toffees from Manchester United last summer in a two-year deal, but is said to be deemed surplus to requirements by new manager Marco Silva.
DC have been holding talks with Rooney over a switch Stateside for the last few weeks, and last week the forward was pictured in Belfast finalising his immigration paperwork.
According to The Mirror, the MLS are keen to get a deal done quickly and have earmarked his debut for July 14, the date they play their first fixture at their new 20,000-seater Audi Field Stadium.
The terms of the deal, which could only formally go through when the MLS transfer window opens on July 10, would allegedly see Rooney earn £300,000 a week for three years.
