Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Fleetwood Town and Lincoln City, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

On the back of a crucial victory at the weekend, Fleetwood Town will look to move further away from the relegation zone in the League One table on Tuesday, when they welcome Lincoln City to Highbury.

The Cod Army climbed up to 19th spot following a win over Crewe Alexandra, with their visitors one place and eight points better off after a victory of their own.

Match preview

Heading into the final straight of the season in the battle for survival, Fleetwood Town found themselves in a dismal run of form, having failed to pick up a single win from a span of 13 games before a layoff due to the international break.

With that run culminating in five straight defeats and a disappointing stalemate with basement side Doncaster Rovers, the Highbury outfit sat in real danger of dropping down to League Two, with just 34 points from 38 outings, only just above the bottom four as a result.

However, Stephen Crainey's side were able to end their drought and post a much-needed win on Saturday, defeating Crewe Alexandra 3-1 away from home as Anthony Pilkington and Ellis Harrison got on the scoresheet after Harvey Macadam's opener was cancelled out.

While they are by no means clear of danger yet, Crainey's side have strengthened their position in the fight for survival with that victory, and, with at least one game in hand on every side below them and a two-point lead over the drop zone, they will aim to post another crucial win on Tuesday to increase their cushion.

Their visitors arrive having also made a return to winning ways at the weekend, following a tough spell in what has been an underwhelming season.

Lincoln City have continuously threatened to push towards a higher mid-table place throughout the campaign, but Michael Appleton's side have been unable to establish consistency at any stage, remaining 17th as a result.

They headed into the weekend on the back of defeats to Rotherham United and Shrewsbury Town either side of a draw with Sunderland but were able to get back to winning ways against Charlton Athletic.

In a game in which each team had a man sent off, the Imps took a two-goal lead away from home through Morgan Whittaker and Anthony Scully and were able to see out a 2-1 victory after Jayden Stockley had pulled one back late on for the hosts.

As a result, Appleton's men now have 17th-placed Burton Albion and 16th-placed Shrewsbury back in their sights, and they will search for a second straight win with the chance to leapfrog both on Tuesday.

Team News

Fleetwood will remain without Jordan Rossiter due to injury, although the midfielder is likely to be the only absentee.

Crainey has several decisions to make in attack, after Anthony Pikington and Ellis Harrison both scored off the bench on Saturday.

Further back, he is expected to stick with the defensive trio of Zak Jules, Aristote Nsiala and Tom Clarke.

Lincoln City are without Swansea City loanee Morgan Whittaker, after Saturday's opening scorer was sent off in the second half of that game.

His absence should make room for either Tom Hopper or John Marquis, although Appleton may look to bring both in, having led the line for large portions of the campaign.

Jordan Wright will continue to play in net, with other goalkeeper Josh Griffiths sidelined by an injury.

Fleetwood Town possible starting lineup:
Cairns; Nsiala, Clarke, Jules; Johnson, Camps, Biggins, Lane; Pilkington, Macadam; Harrison

Lincoln City possible starting lineup:
Wright; Poole, Jackson, Eyoma; Norton-Cuffy, McGrandles, Bridcutt, Fiorini, Scully; Hopper, Marquis

We say: Fleetwood Town 1-1 Lincoln City

With two teams keen to build a resurgence on the back of positive results at the weekend, we expect a tight affair and cannot quite pick a winner.

Lincoln boast a strong squad, arguably better than their position in the table suggests, but their hosts will be rejuvenated from a crucial win at the weekend and should have enough to earn a point.
