Stephen Crainey has joined Fleetwood Town after coming to the end of his contract with Wigan Athletic.
The defender has agreed a one-year deal with the club, who gained promotion to League One through the playoffs last season.
Manager Graham Alexander told the club's website: "We have had our eye on trying to improve the squad. Every manager is the same and we thought we needed to bring in some more added quality and experience.
"Stephen Crainey certainly provides that, he has played at the top level and he is still hungry for success. He is chomping at the bit and he can't wait to get started."
Crainey has previously had spells with Blackpool, Leeds United and Celtic.
