Netherlands Women will continue their defence of the title that they won five years ago when they face France Women in the quarter-finals of the Women's Euro 2022 on Saturday.

France, meanwhile, are looking to reach the semi-finals of the European Championships for the first time in their history.

Match preview

France will try to avoid a fourth consecutive quarter-final exit at the European Championships when they face the Netherlands at the New York Stadium.

Corinne Diacre's side booked their place in the knockout rounds after picking up seven points from their three group games.

The tournament began with a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Italy before they beat Belgium 2-1 to secure top spot after just two matches.

They looked set to claim a 17th consecutive international victory in their final group game after Melvine Malard found the net in the first minute, but a Dagny Brynjarsdottir spot kick in the 12th minute of stoppage time denied France all three points.

After cruising through the group stage, France will be aiming to reach the semi-finals at a major tournament for the first time since the 2012 Olympics.

Meanwhile, the Netherlands will be aiming to move one step closer to retaining the trophy they won on home soil five years ago.

They opened Euro 2022 with a 1-1 draw against Sweden before registering their first win of the tournament with a 3-2 victory over Portugal on matchday two.

After collecting four points from their opening two group games, Mark Parsons's side knew that a point against Switzerland would secure them a place in the knockout rounds.

The defending champions were pegged back after Switzerland's Geraldine Reuteler cancelled out the Netherlands' opener, but a brace from Romee Leuchter and a Victoria Pelova strike wrapped up a 4-1 win.

After finishing in second place in Group C, the Netherlands will now be looking to reach the semi-finals at the European Championships for the third time in their last four tournaments.

Team News

France are without Marie-Antoinette Katoto who was ruled out of the tournament after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury in their second group game.

Malard came into the side against Iceland to replace Katoto, and the 22-year-old is expected to retain her place in the starting lineup for the quarter-final.

Meanwhile, Diacre is expected to make a number of changes after resting several players in the final group game, with the likes of Griedge Mbock and Grace Geyoro set to return to the starting XI.

As for the visitors, Vivianne Miedema is expected to start Saturday's contest after missing the group games against Portugal and Switzerland due to COVID-19.

Aniek Nouwen returned to the Netherlands side against Switzerland after recovering from an ankle injury that she sustained in her side's tournament opener, and the Chelsea defender will retain her place for the quarter-final.

Despite coming off the bench to grab a brace in the final group game, Leuchter will have to settle for a place among the substitutes against France.

France Women possible starting lineup:
Peyraud-Magnin; Perisset, Mbock, Renard, Karchaoui; Geyoro, Bilbault, Mateo; Diani, Cascarino, Malard

Netherlands Women possible starting lineup:
Van Domselaar; Wilms, Van der Gragt, Nouwen, Janssen; Groenen, Roord, Spitse; Van de Donk, Martens, Miedema

We say: France Women 2-1 Netherlands Women

France have already beaten their quarter-final opponents this year, beating the Netherlands 3-1 in February at the Tournoi de France, and we think that they will draw upon that experience to edge out Parsons's side on Saturday.
