France manager Didier Deschamps will be looking to equal a World Cup winning record when his side take on Tunisia in their final Group D clash on Wednesday.

The current world champions kicked off their campaign at the 2022 tournament in Qatar with a 4-1 victory over Australia last Tuesday, with Olivier Giroud (2), Adrien Rabiot and Kylian Mbappe all on the scoresheet.

The latter then bagged a brace to help Les Bleus record a 2-1 win against Denmark on Saturday and become the first nation to qualify for the last 16.

Deschamps, who took the reins as France boss in the summer of 2012, has now won 11 of his 14 games as a manager at the World Cup, boasting a win percentage of 78.6%.

Should the 54-year-old lead his team to victory against Tunisia on Wednesday, he will equal the best win ratio of any manager in World Cup history with at least 10 matches in charge in the competition.

Securing maximum points at the Education City Stadium would see Deschamps draw level with former Brazil head coach Tele Santana, who has an 80% win ratio after winning eight of his 10 games at the World Cup.

France are currently enjoying a six-game winning streak at the World Cup, their longest in the competition; only Brazil (11 between 2002 and 2006) and Italy (seven between 1934 and 1938) have ever boasted longer winning runs on the biggest international stage.

The two-time world champions will be confident of success against Tunisia as they have never lost in four previous meetings against the African outfit, winning and drawing two games each.

Deschamps is not the only French representative out to make history on Wednesday, as captain Hugo Lloris is in line to earn his 142nd international cap, which would see the Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper draw level with legendary defender Lilian Thuram as the nation's most-capped player.

Lloris is also looking to equal Thierry Henry and Fabien Barthez (both 17) as the player with the joint-most World Cup appearances for France.

France require just a point to guarantee top spot in Group D and Deschamps has suggested that he will consider resting a few star names on Wednesday.

Speaking to TF1, Deschamps said: "For us, it's ideal, we have six points so we are sure to qualify after two matches. We will appreciate that before the next game in four days. It brings peace, the assurance that we qualify.

"We have a very high chance of finishing first [in Group D] because our goal difference is much better than Australia's, so we're in the perfect position.

"The first objective [of making the knockouts] is achieved. It's never easy, especially in relation to the expectations. This group is strong, solid, and wants to do great things, it has already done two beautiful things with these two victories."

Should France secure top spot in Group D, the current World Cup holders will face the runners up of Group C in the last 16, with Poland, Argentina, Saudi Arabia and Mexico all still in contention to qualify for the knockout rounds. body check tags ::
