Fulham secured their passage in the FA Cup after a Clint Dempsey hattrick gave them a 4-0 win over Charlton this afternoon.
The home side might have been ahead barely six minutes into the tie when Moussa Dembele found himself unmarked, but his shot was pushed away by John Sullivan.
Fulham did open the scoring, however, after eight minutes when Dempsey found a cool finish inside the area.
Charlton's best chance of the opening period fell to Danny Green just past the 30-minute mark, but his strike was blocked by John Arne Riise.
Riise himself went close for Fulham moments later, but his long-range effort drifted wide of the post.
The away side grew into the second period and might have been level through Bradley Wright-Phillips and later Green, but two fine stops from David Stockdale kept the score at 1-0.
Dempsey made it two for Fulham just past the hour mark after fine combination play with Bryan Ruiz ended in the American chipping over Sullivan.
Dempsey completed his hattrick after 81 minutes with a penalty after the lively Ruiz had been bundled over in the area.
Damien Duff completed the rout with a fine finish late on after good work from Bobby Zamora.
Fulham continue their league campaign against Blackburn next weekend, while Charlton travel to Sheffield Wednesday.
