Live text commentary from Group D of the African Nations Championship as Gabon took on Burundi in Polokwane and drew 0-0.

The Democratic Republic of Congo remain top of the African Nations Championship Group D as Gabon have been held to a 0-0 draw against Burundi.

It was a game of very few chances, though Gabon were just about the better team. They had a late effort from Lionel Richie Yacouya ruled out for offside and had to settle for the point.

Read how the action unfolded below with our live text commentary.

Hello again African football fans. Group D continues this evening with Gabon and Burundi looking to follow Democratic Republic of Congo's lead and start things off with three points. Congo's 1-0 win earlier put them top, which means a 2-0 or better from either side today would usurp them.
Gabon are the big favourites for this one, but you just never know. Mauritania were very good against Congo this afternoon and it could be a similar story at the same stadium. It should be exciting at least.
By far the most famous name from either of these two sides is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but the Dortmund player is not part of the squad for this tournament. There are still plenty of talented players on display and I will bring you the lineup shortly.
A reminder what happened in this group earlier, with Congo DR beating Mauritania. Gabon might well be looking at this as an opportunity to take control of the group.
Another Gabonese player known to fans of the Premier League is former Hull City striker Daniel Cousin. He plays today and will captain his side. I have the teams in so will get them across now.
GABON XI: Moto; Appidangoye, Mouele, Nguema, Avebe, Engonga; Kabi, Mpaga, Taty; Ewouta, Cousin
BURUNDI XI: Arakaza; Rashid, Habonimana, I. Hakizimana, H. Hakizimana; Nduwarugira, Ndikumana, Duhayandavyi, Nsabiyumva; Abdoul, Selemani
Anthems and minute's silence done, we're just about ready to go here.
KICKOFF: Gabon in their typical blue and yellow who get underway against the red of Burundi.
Both sides have seen plenty of the ball to begin with in this one, but no chances as yet. Almost one for Ntsitsigui, but he was caught offside with the ball over the top.
Fiston is almost in at the other end. For a minute it appears he's one-on-one but Nguema slides in with an excellent tackle to stop him pulling the trigger.
As expected the majority of the ball has been played by Gabon. They are looking comfortable in possession with Mpaga neat in the holding role.
A chance nearly comes from nothing more than a hopeful punt, but Cousin's pass to his strike partner Ntsitsigui is slightly overhit and he cannot gather it in for a shot.
There's a real lack of a flow in this one as both sides are guilty of giving away free kicks in the middle. A foul there was against the young Fiston, who has been tracked very tightly so far by the Gabon defence.
Burundi get away with it following a cross that bobbles around in the box. There's some pulling and shoving in the box and the referee deemed that one of the men in red was hard done by.
CHANCE! That's a big chance for Ewouta! A corner is not cleared by Arakaza and it falls to the striker at the far post, but his effort is weak and it's blocked away to safety. That's the best chance so far.
Another effort resembling a chance there for Ewouto. This time he gets too much on it and it flies over.
Very little to report from this one in terms of chances. Nduwarugira wins a free kick for Burundi on the left and this could turn into something perhaps.
Really good cross there from the right by Mouele but despite fizzing across the box no-one is able to get on the end of it. It's safe to say this one can only get better from this point!
It's all a bit shirty in this first half. Cousin is tripped by Hakizimana around 35 yards from goal, which leads to a bit of a scuffle. We're almost ready for it to be taken.
Cousin is a bit fortunate that his awful strike is deflected over the bar. From the corner Engonga meets it but cannot find the target. He might have done better.
Gabon are giving Burundi a bit of a runaround at the moment. The men in red are pressing and harrying but with little joy at the moment. That said, a pass from Tchen goes out of play to end a spell of Gabonese pressure.
Something really needs to happen soon to give this game some spark. At the moment far too many long balls are being aimed towards short players up front who won't win the headers. Yes, Burundi, that's mainly aimed at you.
CHANCE! Best chance of the game and it fell to Cousin, who is looking like the Brazilian Ronaldo in this kit. He chests down a ball over the top but just as he manages to shoot Arakaza is out really quickly to save. The keeper has stayed down after that brave bit of work.
Not long now until the break, and really neither side deserves to be ahead. Gabon have perhaps been a bit more adventurous, but they've still created very little. Burundi have given them no space.
Two minutes of stoppage time have been added on to the end of this half. This has not been a good advert for African football so far.
HALF-TIME: Gabon 0-0 Burundi
High-fives and a huddle from the Burundi players, who will be happy that they have been able to shut out Gabon in the first half. Their effort has led to a half of few chances, though, which hasn't been good for the neutral.
Something has to change in the second half or this one is ending 0-0. Gabon have been slightly the stronger side but really have had just two good chances. They haven't been able to take them and Burundi's game plan has worked so far.
Half-time might be a little early for changes, but I would expect some before too long. Especially from the Gabon coach Bounguenzda.
The players are back out and we're almost ready to go for the second 45.
Burundi get us underway for the second half. Gabon saw a lot of the ball in the first 45, but will they be able to create more chances?
Cousin steps over a free kick from about 25 yards and after it's laid off to him he drills it low and.... wide. Not too far off but the goal was never in danger.
Break in play here as Engonga is down receiving treatment. He's up and jogs off the pitch, so should be fine to continue.
BURUNDI SUB: On comes Mossi Moussa for the men in red, who is on for Nduwarugira.
BOOKING: Ewouta goes into the book for booting Fiston in the face. It was raised quite high and the card is fair enough for me.
Good goalkeeping as Arakaza rises high to clutch a long ball under pressure. He has played well so far.
BOOKING: Another yellow, this time for Duhayindavyi, who chopped through his man from behind. Nasty, that.
This is looking every inch a 0-0 draw at the moment. Naturally, teams are a bit more cautious in their opening game but this one in particular has lacked real quality.
BURUNDI SUB: Chance for Burundi then as Nahimana takes to the field in place of Habonimana.
Half-chance from a free kick for Nguema, who hooked a volley over his head and over the bar. Off comes Cousin, with Yacouya on for him.
Gabon have upped their urgency slightly in the last few minutes, but in doing so are a little more open at the back. Can Burundi take advantage? Not there, as Duhayindavyi runs it out of play on the left.
GABON SUB: Mayoungou comes on for Ewouta. Will this spark them into life?
I'm almost certain that one goal would win this one and the longer it goes on the more I feel it will come for Burundi. They have succeeded in frustrating Gabon and a winner would cap off their gameplan.
Gabon are passing it tidily, but everything is falling apart when they get near the box. More fouls and more sideways passing, but very little action at the moment.
Both coaches are on the edge of their technical area urging their side on, but it seems neither are getting any joy. They haven't had any sort of attacking response from their players.
Tchen is down holding his leg after a coming together in midfield. His ankle was slightly stepped on, but he looks ok to continue.
Nearly a chance! Burundi work a break and it's Moussa who goes for goal from an angle just inside the box. However, he hits his effort into the ground and straight at Bitseki, who has had very little to do this half.
That said, the Burundi stopper Arakaza has not exactly been peppered with shots. Mayoungou goes to ground a little easily trying to get into the box and the referee rightly waves play on.
MISS! Oh dear! This is awful for a number of reasons. A corner is completely missed by Arakaza, which gifts Nguema a free header from not more than six yards out, however he manages to put it over the bar. That's a sitter, it really is.
Chance at the other end for Moussa, again with a header. He stooped to meet a cross and can't have expected to have got there, but he did and his effort flies over. That was a much tougher chance than the one a few moments ago.
BOOKING: Yacouya hauls his man down in midfield and the sub goes into the book.
DISALLOWED GOAL! The ball is in the net, but it's immediately ruled out! I think it was Mayoungou who stuck it in form a free kick, but half of his body was offside when the ball came in. Good call from the linesman.
We're into the second minute of three added on and it's time for a late change for Burundi. Ndarusanze is on for Nsabiyumva.
FULL-TIME! Gabon 0-0 Burundi
That's all we have time for tonight. Congo DR remain top of Group D as Burundi earn themselves a draw tonight. Thanks for joining me for this one and we'll be back with more action from Africa tomorrow. Goodbye.
