Angers remain unbeaten in their first season back in Ligue 1 after they saw off fellow new boys Gazelec Ajaccio.
Cheikh Ndoye gave the visitors the lead inside two minutes when Yoann Andreu's well-directed set-piece allowed the midfielder to head home past a helpless Clement Maury.
Angers doubled their advantage on 20 minutes when Ndoye was gifted space in the Gazelec box before smashing his shot into the roof of the net.
The hosts nearly pulled a goal back midway through the half as Jacques Zoua's strike was stopped by Ludovic Butelle.
On the stroke of half time, Abdoul Camara squandered another chance for Angers, who were enjoying less of the ball than Gazelec, but could have been out of sight.
Ajaccio resorted to shooting from distance after the break, with Amos Youga taking aim at Butelle's goal, but wildly missed the target.
Ndoye was denied a hat-trick midway through the second half when his shot rattled the frame of the goal, but Angers were able to hold for a victory that keeps them within two points of Paris Saint-Germain at the top.
