The two highest-ranked teams in Group B will go head-to-head on Tuesday when Germany Women face Spain Women in the Women's Euro 2022.

Germany began their campaign with a 4-0 win over Denmark, while Spain thrashed Finland 4-1 in their group opener.

Match preview

Germany began their quest for a ninth European Championship with an emphatic victory over Denmark in their opening game.

Lina Magull opened the scoring in the 21st minute to give her country a slender lead at the break before Germany moved through the gears in the second half.

Lea Schuller doubled the advantage, while Lena Lattwein and Alex Popp grabbed a goal apiece late on, ensuring that Germany began their campaign with three points.

The result represented Germany's third win in their last four matches, while they have now scored 11 goals in their previous two games.

After beating Spain 1-0 at the 2019 World Cup in the last meeting between the sides at a major tournament, Germany will be confident of claiming three more points on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Spain are also looking to begin their campaign with consecutive victories after beating Finland on matchday one.

There would have been trepidation in the Spanish camp ahead of the opening game after their star player Alexia Putellas was ruled out of the European Championships on the eve of the tournament.

Without Putellas - who suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury - Spain managed to ease past Finland despite falling behind in the opening minute.

Irene Paredes restored parity after Linda Sallstrom had opened the scoring before Aitana Bonmati's looping header gave Spain a half-time lead.

Athletic Bilbao's Lucia Garcia added to the tally in the second half before Mariona Caldentey dispatched her spot kick in stoppage time, wrapping up an impressive 4-1 win that will give Spain a confidence boost ahead of Tuesday's encounter.

Team News

Although Lattwein and Popp came off the bench to grab a goal apiece on Friday, the pair are expected to remain among the substitutes, with Martina Voss-Tecklenburg set to name an unchanged starting lineup.

After keeping a clean sheet in the opening game, Kathrin Hendrich will resume her partnership with Marina Hegering in central defence.

Meanwhile, Schuller will be aiming to add to the goal that she scored against Denmark when she leads the line on Tuesday.

Like their opponents, Spain are expected to name an unchanged starting XI after sweeping aside Finland in their tournament opener.

Bonmati did her best to fill Putellas's boots on Friday, and the 24-year-old be looking be looking to play a key role for the side once again when she starts in midfield alongside Patricia Guijarro and Irene Guerrero.

Lucia Garcia has scored three goals in her last three appearances for her country, and she will be aiming to continue her impressive form against Germany.

Germany Women possible starting lineup:
Frohms; Gwinn, Hendrich, Hegering, Rauch; Oberdorf, Dabritz, Magull; Huth, Buhl, Schuller

Spain Women possible starting lineup:
Panos; Batlle, Paredes, Leon, Ouahabi; Bonmati, Guijarro, Guerrero; Garcia, Caldentey, Gonzalez

We say: Germany Women 2-2 Spain Women

With only two places separating the sides in the FIFA World Rankings, there is not much to separate the two nations, and we think an entertaining contest on Tuesday could result in the spoils being shared.
