Lars Bender has insisted that he is happy to play at right-back for the German national team.
Despite being used as a holding midfielder for his club side Bayer Leverkusen, Germany coach Joachim Low deployed the 23-year-old as a full-back during his side's 2-1 win over Denmark.
Discussing his role in the starting lineup, Bender has revealed that he felt comfortable in a more defensive slot.
"It's true that I'm not used to playing in the position, but I played there in our warm-up matches for this tournament and I did well," Bender told reporters.
"The manager believed in me and that's why I felt very much at ease playing."
Bender, who scored the winner against Denmark, was making his first starting appearance at Euro 2012 last night.
