Bruno Soriano's strike in the dying minutes handed Villarreal a 1-0 win over Getafe in the Copa del Rey this evening.
Marcelino Garcia Toral's side nearly took the lead inside the opening 10 minutes when Giovani dos Santos fed Gerard Moreno, but the striker's effort flew narrowly over the top of the Getafe goal.
Moreno failed to adequately test Jonathan Lopez when he met a cross from the right on the half-hour mark in the only other first-half chance of note as a resilient Getafe side restricted Villarreal.
The second half continued in the same vein as the first, with the home side dominating possession but rarely troubling Lopez.
Villarreal's main threat remained Moreno, who came close to putting his team ahead with a powerful effort on 73 minutes.
With time running out, Bruno Soriano struck in the 85th minute to grab the win for the Yellow Submarine.
Late substitute Luciano Vietto nearly doubled the lead in added time but saw his shot tipped over goal by Lopez.
