FC Utrecht have succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Heerenveen in this afternoon's Eredivisie clash at the Stadion Galgenwaard.
The hosts made a bright start to the game as Yassin Ayoub let rip with a hard shot after just three minutes played, but Kristoffer Nordfeldt pulled off a smart save and also kept out Kristoffer Peterson's follow-up.
Utrecht continued to press, but ultimately the visitors broke the deadlock four minutes before the break, as Mark Uth played a neat through-ball to Luciano Slagveer, who duly slotted home.
Heerenveen then doubled their lead midway through the second half when Joey van den Berg's cross was converted by Sam Larsson.
Utrecht, however, gave the visitors a nervy finish when they were awarded a penalty in the 90th minute, which Willem Janssen successfully fired home.
