Sports Mole previews Saturday's Scottish Premiership clash between Hibernian and Aberdeen, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

After the postponement to matches last weekend, the Scottish Premiership will return on Saturday, with Hibernian welcoming fellow top-flight side Aberdeen.

While there is only a difference of two points between the two sides, a gap of four places separates Hibs and Aberdeen in what has been a tight start to the Premiership campaign.

Match preview

It has been a mixed start to the season for Hibernian, who currently reside in eighth place, having taken just eight points from their opening six games.

While that does represent over a point per game at this stage, they have struggled to find consistency in their results, winning just two of the first six outings in the league.

One of those two victories came last time out against Kilmarnock, when Hibs took three points at home against the Premiership strugglers.

Backing that result up will be of paramount importance, especially if Hibs wish to climb the Premiership table and jump into the top half.

To do so, they will have to find the net more, as they currently average just one goal every game in the league so far.

At this point in the season, Aberdeen currently yield 10 points after their six games and enter the weekend in third position.

Following an opening-day defeat to Celtic, Aberdeen have gone on to lose just one of their next five fixtures, while winning three matches in that time.

A frustrating 1-1 draw last time around brought an end to Aberdeen's two-match winning streak, something that they will no doubt look to amend this weekend.

It is a fixture that has not seen one side dominate for long spells, as neither Aberdeen or Hibs have won consecutive head-to-head meetings since August 2020.

However, as far as games at Easter Road are concerned, it is certainly Hibs who enjoy the better time of things, having gone unbeaten in four of their last five meetings at home against Aberdeen.

Team News

Boosted by an almost fully-fit squad, Aberdeen will only be without two absentees on Saturday, with Callum Roberts among the duo missing with a hamstring injury.

A knee problem is likely to keep Connor Barron out of proceedings, but the midfielder is expected to return before the end of the month.

As for Hibs, their injury list is much bigger, with five players missing for the side from the capital.

Ligament damage is keeping Aiden McGeady from being involved, whereas a knee problem is the reason for Kyle Magennis's absence.

Forward Kevin Nisbet is nursing an anterior cruciate ligament injury and will not be back until November at the earliest, while Demetri Mitchell and Maciej Dabrowski are unlikely to make the squad.

Hibernian possible starting lineup:
Marshall; Cadden, Porteous, Hanlon, Cabraja; Kenneh, Newell; Boyle, Campbell, Henderson; Youan

Aberdeen possible starting lineup:
Roos; Richardson, Stewart, Scales, Coulson; Ramadani, McCrorie; Besuijen, Clarkson, Hayes; Miovski

We say: Hibernian 2-1 Aberdeen

Aberdeen will be fancied to pick up another victory on Saturday afternoon, such has been Hibs's tough start to the campaign.

While they may be in for a tight affair, it is likely that this weekend's clash will go the way of the hosts.
