Hibernian overcame St Johnstone 1-0 at McDiamird Park on Wednesday evening.
Paul Cairney's late winner was enough to give Hibs the points on a near-freezing cold night in Perth.
In a fairly tentative first half, the best chance fell to the visitors in the first minute, but Eion Doyle could not keep his shot down.
Doyle was replaced by Ross Caldwell in the second half and he was guilty of the same offence when his shot rose over the bar after 70 minutes.
With the match heading towards a draw, Cairney popped up to place a strike beyond St Johnstone keeper Alan Mannus with eight minutes left.
The home side had skipper Dave Mackay sent off in injury time for his second yellow card.
