Brentford clinch an emphatic 4-1 win over Huddersfield Town at Griffin Park in the Championship.

Brentford have eased to a comfortable 4-1 win over Huddersfield Town at Griffin Park in the Championship this evening.

The home side made a quick start as Jonathan Douglas picked out Chris Long on the edge of the box inside the opening five minutes, leaving the striker to rifle it in.

Despite Brentford continuing to look the more likely, it was Huddersfield who scored the second when James Vaughan provided a through-ball for Harry Bunn, who rounded the last defender before cutting back inside to slot the ball in.

Alex Pritchard could have restored the hosts' lead before the interval, but he fired wide to leave the sides level at half time.

Mark Warburton's side were on the attack early in the second half, desperate to regain the lead, but Alex Smithies made saves to deny Toumani Diagouraga and Jota less than five minutes after the restart.

Brentford did find the back of the net again soon after though, as Long netted his second of the night, curling it into the top of the net from the middle of the area.

Vaughan attempted to add a second equaliser for the visitors when Jonathan Hogg found him with a cross, but his right-footed strike failed to test the keeper.

The miss proved costly as Brentford extended their lead just a few minutes later when Diagouraga played the ball forward for Pritchard, who rifled it into the top corner from 20 yards out.

Andre Gray came off the bench late on and came close to adding a fourth when Pritchard slotted the ball through for the striker, but he sliced it just wide.

Jon Toral was also brought on late on for the home side, and he managed to make it four just seconds before the full-time whistle, sending a powerful low drive back in after a corner was cleared.

The result moves Brentford back into the playoff places, while Huddersfield sit 16th.
