Republic of Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane believes that Hull City midfielder David Meyler was right to not react following his clash with Alan Pardew on Saturday.
The Newcastle United manager has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association after he appeared to headbutt Meyler during his side's 4-1 win at the KC Stadium.
Keane has said that Meyler, who is on international duty with Ireland ahead of their friendly with Serbia on Wednesday, did the "right thing" by not lashing out at the Newcastle boss.
"He did exactly what you would expect him to do," Keane told Sky Sports News.
"He did the right thing. He's a [County] Cork lad so he doesn't go down easily. There's been no surprise for me with Meyler. I know the type of character he is."
Pardew has been informed that he will not face criminal proceedings after his actions.
