Hull City are reportedly engaged in talks with Luton Town over the loan signing of defender Ryan Giles before the end of the January window.

The 23-year-old made the switch from Wolverhampton Wanderers to the newly-promoted Hatters in the summer but has struggled for regular game time so far, starting just five Premier League matches.

Giles had a breakthrough campaign in the Championship on loan at Michael Carrick's Middlesbrough in 2022-23, providing 11 assists from wing-back in 47 second-tier appearances.

The defender's time at the Riverside Stadium was not the first time that he had been loaned out by Wolves, though, with the former England Under-20 international also enjoying spells at the likes of Blackburn Rovers and Cardiff City.

According to the Daily Mail, Hull are in talks with Luton over the possibility of bringing Giles to the MKM Stadium during this winter window.

The report claims that the switch would be a temporary one until the end of the 2023-24 campaign, in an attempt to boost the Tigers' chances of reaching the playoffs.

It is understood that an obligation to buy would be placed into the agreement between the Hatters and Hull, with the Humberside club paying £4.25m for the wing-back in the summer.

Looking to sanction their own incomings this month, it is believed that Rob Edwards's side are open to letting Giles search for regular game time elsewhere.

Sitting seventh in the Championship standings, Hull are just a point behind sixth-placed Coventry City in the race to reach the Premier League via the playoffs.

Liam Rosenior's side have already shown serious ambition to improve their squad during the January window, recruiting Fabio Carvalho on loan from Liverpool.

The Portuguese winger - who spent the first half of the term at RB Leipzig - was a crucial part of Marco Silva's Fulham side which blitzed their way to the second-tier title in 2021-22.

With Luton operating with a back five in recent matches, Alfie Doughty has been getting the nod from Edwards at wing-back, limiting Giles to a place on the bench.

Former Stoke City man Doughty provided the assist for Carlton Morris's late equaliser in the draw at Turf Moor against relegation rivals Burnley last time out in the Premier League - the 24-year-old's sixth goal contribution of the league campaign.

After narrowly making their way past League One outfit Bolton Wanderers in a third-round replay, the Hatters will face Everton in the FA Cup on Saturday, when a spot in the last 16 will be on the line. body check tags ::
