Inter Milan eased to a 2-0 win over Genoa in their opening match of the new Serie A season this afternoon.
An uneventful first half was briefly lit up by efforts from Andrea Ranocchia, Jonathan and Zdravko Kuzmanovic, but their finishing was wayward as they failed to test the keeper.
Fredy Guarin came close to breaking the deadlock with 20 minutes of the match left, but his strike was saved by Mattia Perin.
The hosts weren't to be denied for much longer, however, finally finding the opening goal five minutes later when Yuto Nagatomo headed home having been found by Jonathan.
Inter came within inches of doubling their lead in the 82nd minute when Mauro Icardi rose highest to head towards goal, but his effort came back off the crossbar.
The result was put beyond any doubt in second half stoppage time when Rodrigo Palacio got on the end of a Guarin pass to double his side's lead.
