Paul Jewell refuses to blame board for Ipswich Town's plight

Paul Jewell insists that the Ipswich Town board are not to blame for club's poor start to the new Championship season.

Ipswich Town manager Paul Jewell has opted against criticising either owner Marcus Evans or chief executive Simon Clegg for the position that the club currently finds itself in.

The Tractor Boys have not won in 10 outings and as a result are 23rd in the Championship table.

Many supporters on forums have laid the blame for the situation at the feet of the board following reports that they decided not to back Jewell during the summer transfer window.

Despite conceding that he missed out on a number of targets, Jewell stopped short of bad mouthing the club's hierarchy.

"I'm not going to sit here and blame them. I'm the manager, I pick the team and I have to take responsibility," he told reporters. "There have been players we've missed out on that I wanted to bring in, but you don't get everything you want in life. I'm here to take responsibility.

"I don't think any manager in any club can assemble the exact squad he wants. We could have had Charlie Austin, we could have had others. There are plenty of players who've slipped through the net, but we've still brought in what we think are some good players.

"I'm not going to sit here and say it's because I couldn't have this and I couldn't have that. We're in the situation we're in and I have to front that up."

Recent speculation has suggested that Jewell will be sacked if the Blues lose at home to Derby County tonight.
