Mick McCarthy apologises for bad language during goal celebration

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy apologises for his use of words late on in his side's 1-1 draw with Norwich City, but denies directing them towards his own fans.

Mick McCarthy has said sorry for his offensive language following Ipswich Town's goal against Norwich City in Sunday's East Anglia derby.

The 59-year-old was at the heart of the celebrations in the away dugout after Luke Chambers put the Tractor Boys a goal up in the final minute of normal time, shortly before Norwich scored a dramatic leveller through Timm Klose.

McCarthy's use of words were picked up by TV cameras at the time and, while the experienced manager has apologised for the comments, he insists that they were not aimed at the travelling supporters.

"It was a big moment for us, coming so late in the game. You can get carried away in situations like that," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"To be honest I forgot the cameras were there and can capture every word now. You don't think about that during the game. For those who were offended by my language, I apologise.

"I'd like to reiterate though that my comments were not aimed at anyone. It was just a reaction to the goal and what it meant at that time."

McCarthy has had numerous run-ins with Ipswich supporters during his six years at Portman Road, including earlier this season following a win at Burton Albion.
