Ipswich Town are reportedly prepared to back head coach Kieran McKenna despite a worrying start to the Premier League campaign.

The Tractor Boys were the victims of a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium in West London on Saturday afternoon.

As a result, Ipswich's winless run at the beginning of the top-flight campaign extended to nine matches, joining Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers as the three sides who are yet to taste success.

Consequently, the Tractor Boys are currently occupying 18th position in the Premier League standings, two points behind Crystal Palace in 17th.

McKenna's troops face a massive chance to earn their maiden maximum of the season on Saturday when newly-promoted Leicester City visit Portman Road.

Ipswich 'make McKenna sack decision'

According to Football Insider, Ipswich have made a decision on the short-term future of McKenna following the sobering defeat at Brentford last time out.

The report claims that the club's chiefs are still backing the Northern Irishman despite a challenging start to the campaign for his top-flight newcomers.

It is understood that McKenna has a lot of credit in the back after leading Ipswich from League One to the Premier League in back-to-back campaigns.

The Tractor Boys' hierarchy believe that their men have been unlucky in matches so far as they await their maiden victory.

McKenna guided Ipswich to second in the Championship last term behind Saturday's opponents Leicester, collecting 96 points from 46 second-tier contests.

Positive signs for Ipswich

Despite failing to earn a win so far as the November international break approaches, there have still been considerable causes for optimism at Portman Road for Ipswich.

Securing a permanent switch over the summer from Manchester City, Liam Delap has adjusted to the Premier League admirably, bagging five goals in nine appearances so far.

On a team level, there have been respectable draws in the midst of the winless start, including points against Brighton & Hove Albion and Champions League leaders Aston Villa.
