Juventus coach Antonio Conte believes that this year's Ballon d'Or should be awarded to Andrea Pirlo.
Barcelona's Lionel Messi is a strong favourite for the accolade next month alongside Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo, but Conte thinks that the recognition should go to Pirlo.
"Even if Messi had scored thousands of goals, I would give the Ballon d'Or to Pirlo," said Conte.
"Then, I would have the pleasure of being the coach of a Golden Ball [winner]. Maybe in the future I will."
The veteran midfielder won Serie A last season and was instrumental in helping Italy reach the final of this year's European Championships.
