Steven Gerrard has revealed that he sought the advice of David Beckham before joining the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Beckham played for the Galaxy for five seasons in the second half of his career, where he won two MLS cups.

Gerrard said at a press conference: "David is a hero of mine, a fantastic guy, a wonderful footballer, certainly someone I leaned on for advice before I decided to come here."

The ex-Liverpool player announced his decision to move to the MLS in January after he rejected a one-year contract offer from the Reds, as he didn't want to become a squad player.

He will make his debut against San Jose Earthquakes on July 17.
