Steven Gerrard: 'I would play as striker'

Steven Gerrard says that he would gladly plug gaps in a striking role if needed ahead of his MLS debut with LA Galaxy.

Steven Gerrard has offered his services as a forward to Los Angeles Galaxy boss Bruce Arena ahead of his long-awaited MLS debut on Saturday morning.

The legendary Liverpool midfielder is poised to get his first taste of MLS action when Galaxy clash with San Jose Earthquakes for the California Clasico.

Arena faces a selection dilemma of sorts, with forwards Alan Gordon and Gyasi Zardes on international duty, while Jose Villarreal is sidelined through injury.

However, the 35-year-old, who spent much of his Premier League career either behind the striker or in a deep-lying midfield role, says that he can play more advanced if needs must.

"You know, we've got an injury to Villarreal and Alan Gordon's been called up to the national team, Zardes is away, so we're a little bit limited as far as forwards are concerned," he told reporters.

"I'm always willing to fill in and do what the manager's asked of me.

"I don't want to give too much away for tomorrow but I'll be ready to play in whatever position the manager asks me to play."

Gerrard has made two appearances for Arena's men - a friendly win over Club America, followed by a US Open Cup defeat to Real Salt Lake.
