San Jose Earthquakes have beaten Los Angeles Galaxy 3-2 despite being two goals behind with less than 15 minutes of the match remaining.
Hector Jimenez gave Galaxy the lead in the third minute when he collected the ball from Chad Barrett before slotting it past Jon Busch.
The hosts should have extended their lead when David Beckham's cross found Bryan Gaul but the defender's header was well saved by Busch.
Steven Lenhart almost pulled a goal back for San Jose just before the interval but Brian Perk reacted well to stop the striker's header.
Despite a slow start to the second period, the match changed in an instant when Jimenez was shown a red card for a bad tackle on Steven Beitashour.
San Jose looked encouraged by the decision but Galaxy managed to shock the visitors by extending their lead in the 73rd minute when Beckham produced a defence splitting pass aimed at Mike Magee who finished well from close range.
The away side were able to pull a goal back just three minutes later when Lenhart headed home Marvin Chavez's cross to set up a dramatic finish to the game.
San Jose were given an opportunity to level the match with eight minutes remaining when Beckham was adjudged to have handled in the penalty area and substitute Khari Stephenson stepped up to fire past Perk.
The visitors completed the remarkable comeback in the fourth minute of stoppage time when Alan Gordon found space inside the box to meet Jason Hernandez's cross with an accurate header to earn a dramatic victory.
