Sports Mole rounds up this evening's action from the first round of the Capital One Cup.

Northampton Town produced a shock 3-2 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the first round of the Capital One Cup. The League Two side had let slip a two-goal lead, but Lawson D'Ath's late strike sent them through.

Burton Albion also pulled off one of the surprises of the evening, by beating Wigan Athletic 2-1. Marc-Antoine Fortune had put the Championship side ahead, but goals either side of half time from Dominic Knowles and Stuart Beavon dumped the Latics out of the Cup.

The most incredible scoreline of the evening came from East London, where Brentford beat Dagenham & Redbridge 4-2 on penalties, following a 6-6 draw.

Penalties were also needed to separate Plymouth Argyle and Leyton Orient. Following a 3-3 draw at Home Park, it was Orient who would triumph, winning 6-5 in the shootout.

League Two Oxford United came from behind to shock Bristol City with a 2-1 victory, while Crewe Alexandra beat fellow League One club Barnsley 2-0 at Oakwell.

Birmingham City eventually overcame Cambridge United 3-1 following extra time, while a goal from Neal Bishop earned Scunthorpe United a 1-0 against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

Bolton Wanderers needed extra time to beat League Two Bury. The Shakers had looked set to claim a scalp before a late equaliser from Craig Davies seven minutes into injury time. It was all Bolton from that stage, as two goals from Neil Danns helped his side into the second round.

Brighton & Hove Albion claimed a 2-0 win against Cheltenham United thanks to second-half strikes from Lewis Dunk and Craig Mackail-Smith.

Swindon Town came from behind to earn a 2-1 win against Luton Town, while Matthew Briggs scored and was then sent off on his debut for Millwall in their 1-0 victory over Wycombe Wanderers.

MK Dons eased to a 3-1 win against AFC Wimbledon, but Bradford City needed a late goal from Aaron McLean to give them a 1-0 win over Morecambe.

Middlesbrough made light work of Oldham Athletic, as goals from Luke Williams, Grant Leadbitter and Kike saw them cruise to a 3-0 win.

Sheffield Wednesday eased past Notts County 3-0 and League Two Shrewsbury Town earned a 1-0 win against struggling Blackpool, courtesy of Scott Vernon's goal.

Walsall left it late to claim a 2-1 win over Southend United and it took a 90th-minute strike from Harry Forrester to give Doncaster Rovers a 1-0 victory over York City.
