Leeds United have failed in their appeal against the red card shown to Matt Smith in the heavy weekend defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.
Smith was dismissed for barging into the head of Reda Johnson but Leeds manager Brian McDermott was not happy with the decision and is still bemused as to why it has been upheld.
"I can't understand why it wasn't overturned," McDermott told the club's official website.
"I'm sure they will have their reasons, but there was no intent. He's gone in, in a fair way, he bumped into the player, and he went down easy.
"I don't believe the fracas afterwards was helpful with players from Sheffield Wednesday running a long way to get involved. I'm very disappointed with the outcome."
Smith will miss the upcoming home games against Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Huddersfield Town.
