Neil Redfearn reportedly resigns from his role as Leeds United academy coach, claiming that the club have made his position "untenable".

Neil Redfearn has reportedly left his role as Leeds United academy coach.

The 50-year-old initially accepted the chance to return to his former role in charge of the academy this summer after not being offered an extension as head coach.

However, he has now claimed in a statement released by the Yorkshire Evening Post that his position at the club was "untenable".

"It is with great sadness that I am resigning from my employment at Leeds United with immediate effect," read the statement.

"I am desperately disappointed that (executive director) Adam Pearson's 'offer' of a return to my old position as academy manager was not genuine and the club have since made my position untenable by refusing to let me take up my post at Thorp Arch (Leeds's training ground)."

Redfearn was Leeds's third head coach of the season when he was promoted from the academy last October, guiding the Yorkshire side to safety and a 15th-place finish in the Championship.

The Whites are now led by former Wigan Athletic and Brentford manager Uwe Rosler.

"I would like to wish Uwe Rosler and his staff and players every success for next season and beyond so that Leeds can go back to the Premier League very soon," added Redfearn.

"It has truly been an honour to represent and serve this great club."

Leeds are expected to release a statement on Redfearn's exit later today.
