Sunderland striker Connor Wickham will be given the opportunity to impress in the remainder of this season, Black Cats boss Gus Poyet has insisted.
The 20-year-old was recalled from his loan at Leeds United yesterday, and Poyet expects the England Under-21 international to show him what he can do in the final 10 games of the season.
"I'm not just going to look at Connor tomorrow, I will look at him over the next 10 games and he is going to have a good opportunity to perform," Poyet told the club website.
"He's been playing games [out on loan] which is good – playing against good Championship teams and top defenders."
Wickham has not scored in five games for Leeds, but he was deployed on the wing for some of those and did have an impressive spell for Sheffield Wednesday earlier this season, scoring eight goals in 11 games for the Owls.
