Leeds United boss Neil Warnock has backed El Hadji Diouf to have a positive effect on the club this season.
The 31-year-old, who joined Leeds on a non-contract basis last week, is expected to feature in the club's opening league game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
"When we get him a little bit fitter he can do a job for us. He's on non-contract terms and I asked him to do that to be involved on Saturday while I had a good look at him," he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
"He trained Thursday, Friday and he's in this week. I'll make a decision before the weekend because I'll want him involved against Wolves (on Saturday) if that's the case. We'll have a chat and see what happens. He won't be retiring on the wage we give him."
Diouf has also represented Liverpool and Bolton Wanderers.
