Claudio Ranieri talks up Leicester City's 'strong foundations'

Claudio Ranieri believes that Leicester City's "foundations are strong" for the future after the Foxes lifted the Premier League title for the first time.

Title-winning manager Claudio Ranieri has talked up Leicester City's "strong foundations" after lifting the Premier League trophy this evening.

Leicester, who were confirmed as top-flight champions for the first time in their history earlier this week, saw off Everton 3-1 in their last home game of the season and then had the trophy presented to them.

Ranieri, 64, has won the title in his first season at the club and ended his wait for a league crown after 30 years in management.

"In my career I always thought sooner or later I will win a title but at the beginning I never thought here would be the place but why not? This is crazy season - big teams aren't consistent in this season and we have consistency," the Italian told Sky Sports News.

"I believe at the top it is important to have a very good owner and I met fantastic people. When I first came I thought this is a very good dressing room, all friends and I tried to build the Italian mentality, solid and strong. At beginning wasn't working so well but then after was fantastic.

"At the beginning it was very important to stay in Premier League for a few seasons and then move up but now we are champions. We know very well this is strange year and have to put it aside and be focussed on next season. The foundations are strong."

Leicester, who were 5,000-1 to win the Premier League at the start of the season, finish their campaign away at last year's champions Chelsea, a club formerly managed by Ranieri.
