How Liverpool could line up against Barcelona

Sports Mole looks at how Liverpool could line up for Wednesday's Champions League semi-final first leg against Barcelona.

Liverpool switch focus back to the Champions League in midweek as they face a trip to Barcelona for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie.

The Reds have been in a relentless pursuit of the Premier League title, winning seven matches in a row to leave themselves within a point of leaders Manchester City with two games to go.

Jurgen Klopp's men travel to Newcastle United in their next outing on Saturday, before welcoming Wolverhampton Wanderers to Anfield on the final day, but before then there is the small matter of this European showdown with Barcelona.

Liverpool have never lost in four previous away meetings with Barca in all competitions - against no other side do they have a better unbeaten away record in all European competition (also four vs Porto).

Ahead of their visit to Catalonia on Wednesday evening, Sports Mole looks at how Klopp could set up his side.

Doubtful: Roberto Firmino (groin), Fabinho (head), Adam Lallana (muscular)

Liverpool's biggest fitness concern is Firmino, who sat out the 5-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Friday evening with a muscle tear, but he is expected to return to training on the eve of the match.

Should he be deemed fit enough, the Reds' front three and back five - including goalkeeper Alisson Becker - effectively picks itself.

If it is decided that the Brazilian is unable to start at Camp Nou, though, Daniel Sturridge may again be asked to fill in up top in the most like-for-like option available to Klopp.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has returned from long-term layoff and has an outside chance of being selected from the off, which is also the case for centre-back Joe Gomez, but Klopp is more likely to pick three from Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Fabinho, Georginio Wijnaldum and James Milner.

Fabinho has recovered from a head injury and is the freshest of the options so should get the nod, while Keita and Henderson have also been used together in Liverpool's recent big matches.
