Stewart Downing has said that Andy Carroll should be considered for a place in the England squad for Euro 2012.
Carroll missed out under Fabio Capello - who criticised his off-field behaviour - and he was not named in Stuart Pearce's squad to face Holland at Wembley tomorrow.
"From what I know of him, Andy's a quiet lad. He does his work at Liverpool and hasn't caused any problems," Liverpool teammate Downing said. "Things can get blown out of proportion a bit. He's a young man, he's learning the game, he's learning ways in life.
"You make mistakes along the way but at Liverpool he's been no problem.
"I'm sure he's looking to the Euros thinking he's got a chance of playing."
Carroll has scored once in three England appearances.
