Roy Hodgson: 'Raheem Sterling condition is a joint responsibility'

England boss Roy Hodgson believes that the condition of winger Raheem Sterling should be handled together by the Three Lions and Liverpool.

England boss Roy Hodgson feels that Raheem Sterling's complaint about tiredness may have been ingrained in him at Liverpool by Brendan Rodgers.

The 19-year-old was rested from the Three Lions' side for their 1-0 win over Estonia on Sunday after playing in their 5-0 victory against San Marino three days earlier.

Hodgson feels that the responsibility to ensure Sterling is rested belongs to him and Rodgers at the Reds, to ensure that he can play to his full potential for club and country.

He told reporters: "Raheem might say it is something that is becoming ingrained in him and that he felt the need to talk about being tired more than he would normally do.

"Am I the only one with the responsibility? Or does it have to be shared between club and country? I think it does. I don't think there is a lot of medical evidence to support the 'two-day recovery' so if you want to, you might want to research that one.

"Certainly, the Germans don't do it. That is for certain. I think I should speak to Brendan, but it really is very simple and I am sure he understands that situation."

Sterling has made 14 appearances in all competitions this season.
