Sports Mole

Good evening and welcome to Sports Mole's live coverage of the Europa League clash between Liverpool and Udinese.

Brendan Rodgers's side have the chance to top Group A with victory over the Italians following their impressive 5-3 win over Young Boys.

Liverpool have opted to rest captain Steven Gerrard and striker Luis Suarez with Rodgers fielding a relatively young side that includes Oussama Assaidi, Fabio Borini and Jonjo Shelvey.

Udinese have struggled with English opposition in the past, winning only once against a side from these shores. That win came at the expense of Tottenham Hotspur in 2008-09.

11.pmThat's all from us tonight. Thanks for reading.

11.00pmYou can read our analysis of the game here.

10.00pmYou can read our report of the 90 minutes here. Match analysis is on the way.

9.59pmLiverpool were a little hard done by to lose that one, but they hit a rocky spell in that second half from which they failed to recover.

9.58pmFULL-TIME: Liverpool 2-3 Udinese

94 minsDowning has an effort in stoppage time that doesn't trouble Brkic, and it proves to be Liverpool's last of the match. It's all over here.

90 minsFour minutes of stoppage time to be played.

90 minsChance! Sterling has a shot from range and puts it over the bar. He was fouled in the build-up to that by Faraoni, who is booked.

85 minsUdinese substitution: Ranegie replaces Di Natale. Liverpool will be glad to see the back of him!

85 minsChance! Suarez makes a run and tests Brkic at his near post. He should have passed there!

79 minsLiverpool substitution: Sterling replaces Borini.

76 minsChance! Downing lines up Suarez at point blank range, but his shot is smothered. This is the kind of pressure the Reds need to keep up!

75 minsThe Uruguayan belts home a free kick to give Liverpool a lifeline. It's game on here at Anfield!

75 minsGOAL! Liverpool 2-3 Udinese Oh my word! It's a goal rush here at Anfield as Liverpool respond through Suarez!

72 minsGOAL! Liverpool 1-3 UDINESE Oh dear! It goes from bad to worse for The Reds as Di Natale out-muscles Carragher an rifles the ball past a helpless Reina!

70 minsVery poor defending from Liverpool there. Coates was at fault for that one. He may actually have gotten the final touch.

70 minsGOAL! Liverpool 1-2 UDINESE The Italians were second best for much of the first half, but they've turned this game on its head through Domizzi!

70 minsUdinese substitution: Willens replaces Pinzi.

69 minsChance! A powerful strike from Suarez on the turn is inches away from being turned in by Shelvey! Unlucky!

68 minsPinzi with a terrible challenge on Downing. The ref shows him a yellow, but that should have been red. It was pretty much assault!

67 minsBenatia is shown the yellow card for a mistimed tackle on Suarez. The ref got that one right.

65 minsThe gloves are off now, much to the approval of the Kop.

64 minsLiverpool double substitution: Gerrard and Suarez replace Assaidi and Henderson.

60 minsDowning and Borini play a neat one-two, but the ball ends up going out for a Udinese goalkick. Good play from Liverpool, but sloppy where it counted there.

59 minsGerrard and Suarez are both having a stretch on the touchline. Could we be in for a change around the hour mark?

55 minsHalf chance for Udinese as Pinzi has a crack. Henderson gets the block in but Liverpool are starting to ride their luck a little bit.

54 minsThe rain is really coming down here now. How will this effect things on the pitch?

47 minsNot the start to the second period that Liverpool were looking for. Conceding so early is very demoralising, so this will be a big test of their mettle now.

46 minsGOAL! LIVERPOOL 1-1 UDINESE The Italians draw level with the first attack of the second half! Di Natale smashes Lazzari's cross into the back of the net. A brilliant strike!

45 minsUdinese sub: Lazzari on for Armero

9.08pmThe second half is under way!

9.00pmIt's difficult to find fault with Liverpool in the first half. Everyone has put in a good shift. The Udinese attack have gotten in behind the defence a couple of times, but they are otherwise looking tight. Rodgers also has the big guns of Suarez and Gerrard to fire if need be.

8.54pmReina pulled off a top-drawer save to deny Di Natale early on, who's looked like a goalscoring threat.

8.52pmWe've seen some nice free-flowing football at Anfield tonight, and Liverpool deserve to be in front. They've been the sharper of the two sides, but Udinese have had one or two moments.

41 minsThe ref brings the first half to an end.

45 minsThere will be one minute of stoppage time.

43 minsFaraoni hits it from way out and earns Udinese a corner with a deflection off Carragher. Liverpool deal with the threat and attempt to break.

41 minsDowning goes on a run and is tripped just outside the area, winning Liverpool a free kick in a promising position. He takes it himself and wins a corner thanks to a deflection.

38 minsShelvey has a go from outside the box. He would have been better playing it to Downing, who was in space, but his deflected strike does earn Liverpool a corner.

37 minsJohnson cross into the box for Henderson, but he can't get up high enough and Brkic gathers up the ball.

31 minsDowning has a shot blocked by Pasquale. If Liverpool keep up this attacking possession we could well be in for more goals tonight.

28 minsA half chance falls to Udinese as Faraoni crosses in to Di Natale, who gets in behind Carragher but can't connect with the ball.

24 minsA text book header from Shelvey there, but Downing deserves credit for the delivery too. He powered in along the right and whipped in a pinpoint cross!

23 minsGOAL! Liverpool 1-0 Udinese Shelvey heads in a great cross from Downing. An excellent team goal!

21 minsHe's back on his feet after receiving treatment on the sidelines. Looks like he will be soldiering on.

19 minsUdinese's Faraoni is down injured and looks in some pain. I'm not sure whether he will be able to continue.

18 minsElsewhere, Newcastle have the lead in their game against Bordeaux. You can follow that one here.

17 minsChance! It's end-to-end stuff here as Borini outpaces his marker and drags a shot wide. Good pressure from The Reds.

14 minsChance! Fantastic save from Reina! Di Natale has a go directly from a free kick, but the Spanish shot-stopper pulls off acrobatics to keep him out. Magnificent!

9 minsChance! Udinese go straight on the attack and come close themselves through Di Natale, who shoots wide after an unconvincing clearance by Reina.

8 minsChance! Coates almost heads in from the resulting corner but Brkic scrambles the ball away at the second time of asking. So close!

7 minsAllen plays a reverse ball to Shelvey, who wins a corner with his deflected shot.

6 minsAssaidi with a good run into the Udinese area. He gets in behind the defence but his shot ricochets behind for a goal kick.

3 minsLiverpool are playing a passing game and keeping hold of the ball. Tell tale signs of a Brendan Rodgers side.

8.05pmWe are under way at Anfield!

8.04pmI expect Borini will be a key player tonight. He's a man looking to silence his critics, and he knows tonight's opposition well from his Roma days.

8.00pmThe Anfield faithful are in good voice tonight. Cheers ring out as 'You'll Never Walk Alone' plays over the sound system. Poignant as always!

7.58pmJust over five minutes to go until kickoff. It should be a good one tonight. It's always a great atmosphere at Anfield and the Reds have built up a reputation as a decent cup side.

7.52pmIf you've just joined us, you can get yourself up to speed with tonight's team news here.

7.48pmElsewhere tonight, Newcastle United have a tough Europa League tie with French side Bordeaux. You can follow the action from that game here.

7.44pmUdinese have struggled on these shores in the past with only one English scalp to their name. Guidolin's side have been Jekyll and Hyde in Serie A this season. They currently lie in 15th in the league with only one win from six games.

7.40pmRight, prediction time. I'm going to go with 1-0 Liverpool tonight. The Reds are unbeaten in six European fixtures and are looking like a much better side than they were in the opening games of the season.

7.36pmUpdate from tonight's other game: Panathinaikos have just equalised against Tottenham. You can follow all the action from that game here.

7.35pmThe odds for this evening are: Liverpool 3/5, Udinese 19/4, Draw 11/4.

7.33pmSo Rodgers has hinted that Gerrard and Suarez will play a part tonight. Both have been named as subs along with Sahin, Sterling, Skrtel, and Wisdom.

7.32pmThanks to Eurosport for those quotes.

7.30pmFrancesco Guidolin: "The atmosphere will certainly be impressive and the lads might not be accustomed to that kind of pressure-cooker atmosphere. Still, I think our focus ought to be on Liverpool, who are a great team. After all, atmosphere is all well and good, but the games are played on the pitch. Liverpool haven't had the best start to the season, but that is because they are settling in to a new way of playing with a new coach who did very well at Swansea last year. They paid a price for those big changes, but I have to focus on my own squad and what my players can do."

7.29pmBrendan Rodgers: "I will do what I've done in most of the games and I will have a look at the group. I always look at each game and pick a group and team to win it. Udinese will be a very strong team, they've got some excellent players and have had some excellent results this season so far - they've beaten AC Milan and are unbeaten in their last five games. We need to ensure we have a group that is strong enough to win the game, but those players [Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez] will be involved."

7.28pmSome managerial quotes are coming your way next...

7.26pmThere are a couple of talking points there. Udinese captain Antonio Di Natale makes a return after missing the club's last two games through suspension, while Maurizio Domizzi is back from injury.

7.26pmUdinese: Brkic, Benatia, Danilo, Domizzi, Faraoni, Agyemang-Badu, Pinzi, Pasquale, Pereyra, Di Natale, Armero.

7.22pmWe'll have Udinese's starting XI for you as soon as it's in.

7.22pmSo Brendan Rodgers has gone with a relatively young lineup with key players like Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez rested.

7.20pmLiverpool: Reina, Johnson, Coates, Carragher, Robinson, Assaidi, Henderson, Allen, Shelvey, Downing, Borini

7.18pmThere just under an hour to go until kickoff, but we have some team news and quotes from both managers for you coming right up...

7.17pmGood evening and welcome to our live coverage of the Europa League clash between Liverpool and Udinese at Anfield.
