Jamie Redknapp has expressed his belief that Steven Gerrard will be "devastated" not to have reached the FA Cup final, which would have been his last appearance for Liverpool.
The Reds captain was on the losing side of a 2-1 result against Aston Villa at Wembley in the semi-finals on Sunday.
Now, Gerrard will no longer have the chance to end his Liverpool career with silverware on what will be his 35th birthday on May 30, but Redknapp believes that the midfielder will feel more sad for the club than for himself.
"It is a shame he won't be there, but he has probably achieved more at Liverpool than he would ever have dreamed of," Redknapp wrote in his Daily Mail column.
"If there's anybody who thinks about the team rather than himself, it's Stevie. He will be devastated not to make the final, but for the club's sake, not his."
Gerrard will join MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy in the summer.
