Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster could face a spell on the sidelines after picking up an ankle injury during the club's Under-23 match with Manchester City on Friday.
The 17-year-old landed awkwardly in first-half stoppage time of Liverpool's eventual 3-2 defeat and had to be carried off the field on a stretcher.
The Reds will assess the extent of the injury before deciding whether surgery will be necessary, although BBC Sport claims that the youngster has damaged his ligaments.
"We fear the worst a little bit at the moment," manager Neil Critchley said in the wake of Friday's match.
Brewster won the Golden Boot for England en route to Under-17 World Cup glory in October.
