How Liverpool could line up against Everton

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Liverpool could line up for Saturday's Premier League Merseyside derby with Everton.

Liverpool will have to cope without first-choice left-back Andy Robertson for Saturday lunchtime's Premier League Merseyside derby against Everton at Anfield.

The Scotland international trudged off the turf with his arm in a sling during a Euro 2024 qualifying loss to Spain last week, and he is understood to have sustained a dislocated shoulder in his collision with Roja goalkeeper Unai Simon, which will require surgery.

Robertson's absence will see Jurgen Klopp call upon Kostas Tsimikas, who will celebrate his recent contract renewal with a first Premier League start of the season in an otherwise unaltered backline.

Despite his exploits in South America, Alisson Becker will start in goal as Caoimhin Kelleher recovers from a knee injury, while Joel Matip has displaced Ibrahima Konate to join forces with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold in the rearguard.

A pair of hip-related setbacks for Thiago Alcantara will render the Spaniard unavailable, and Liverpool's midfield options remain reduced through Curtis Jones's suspension and Stefan Bajcetic's calf injury.

As such, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister will hold their places - assuming the latter is deemed fit enough - and the time is also nigh for Ryan Gravenberch to make his first start in the Premier League, having replaced Harvey Elliott at half time against Brighton & Hove Albion two weekends ago.

Cody Gakpo remains doubtful with his knee problem, but Diogo Jota has served his one-game suspension and is a prime candidate to come into the attack, as Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez will have had little recuperation time from their World Cup qualifiers.

Diaz could very well be rested here, as Jota and Mohamed Salah strut their stuff out wide, but Klopp will most likely bite the bullet and field Nunez up front for the lunchtime clash.

Liverpool possible starting lineup: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Salah, Nunez, Jota body check tags ::
