Jamie Carragher unconcerned by Everton's position

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher claims that his side aren't too worried about whether they finish above Merseyside rivals Everton this season.

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has played down the importance of his side finishing above Merseyside rivals Everton this season.

The Reds currently sit seventh in the Premier League table, five points behind sixth-placed Everton with just two games left after yesterday's 0-0 draw between the two sides at Anfield.

Carragher admits that finishing above the Toffees would be nice, but insists that the difference between a sixth-placed finish and a seventh-placed finish is not that important to the club.

"We've got two games to go and we can't be thinking about Everton. We are on a decent run and Southampton is the only defeat for a few months. We need to keep going and try to finish off with a couple of wins," said Carragher.

"Credit to Everton, they've had a great season. They have Chelsea away last game and before that West Ham at home. You'd expect them to win that but you never know. We just need to concentrate on ourselves.

"If we can finish above them then great, but as Stevie [Gerrard] said before the game, we shouldn't be getting too concerned about whether we finish sixth or seventh. If it was the difference between finishing in the top four or not then of course it would be massive. But whether we're sixth or seventh, it's not the end of the world."

Meanwhile Carragher, who will retire at the end of the season, has recently declared himself happy with his overall record in Merseyside derbies against Everton.
