Kenny Dalglish has no issues with referee Martin Atkinson following Liverpool's 2-0 defeat to Newcastle at the Sports Direct Arena.

Kenny Dalglish says he has no complaints with referee Martin Atkinson following Liverpool's 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United this afternoon.

The Reds suffered their sixth defeat in seven top-flight matches at the Sports Direct Arena, where Pepe Reina was sent off late on for a clash with James Perch.

Former Magpies striker Andy Carroll was also booked for simulation in the first-half but Dalglish says he has no quarrels with either of the decisions.

"I don't think it was penalty and I don't think [Carroll] went down deliberately to get a penalty. He said he never went down, he stumbled over," said Dalglish.

"It wasn't a penalty. We don't have any disagreement with Andy going down and with the Pepe Reina decision either.

"The boys have shown frustration and that's probably why Pepe Reina was sent off. It was the frustration of being behind. When Andy Carroll comes off and runs up the tunnel it purely disappointment and frustration."

The under-fire Reds boss believes that directing this frustration on a more positive direction may help Liverpool overcome their poor league form.

"It's all very well having that but we have to manage that and channel it in proper way. If we don't stick together and have trust in each other it is going to be a lot more difficult," he added.

Liverpool now sit eighth in the Premier League table, eleven points behind opponents Newcastle, who moved level on points with Chelsea in fifth place following the win.
