Ex-Liverpool manager Roy Evans claims that Raheem Sterling is struggling for form after the furore surrounding his alleged complaints of fatigue on international duty.

Former Liverpool boss Roy Evans believes that Raheem Sterling has "lost his way" after the fallout from claiming that he was too tired to play for England last month.

Sterling was omitted from the side that beat Estonia 1-0 after allegedly complaining of fatigue to manager Roy Hodgson prior to the match.

Evans thinks that the furore surrounding the issue has affected Sterling's performances, but backed the youngster to regain his early season form.

He told talkSPORT: "As far as Raheem Sterling is concerned, he's just got himself caught up in the England row about being tired.

"I just think he's lost his way a little bit. I think he needs to go back to being really positive and maybe Brendan Rodgers should play him in the one position where he feels really comfortable and get at [opponents].

"He's a great talent and all young players go through that time where they lose a bit of confidence and Raheem has been like that for the last few weeks. He hasn't been at his best but there is plenty more to come from him."

Liverpool host Chelsea on Saturday.
