Rio Ferdinand: 'I would keep Luis Suarez'

Rio Ferdinand admits that if he were Liverpool manager, he would still do his utmost to keep Luis Suarez at the club despite his latest scandal.

Rio Ferdinand has admitted that if he were Liverpool manager he would keep Luis Suarez at the club, despite his latest scandal.

The 27-year-old was banned for four months from all football-related activity by FIFA after biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini in Uruguay's World Cup win over the Azzurri.

Despite this latest infraction, Ferdinand feels that Suarez is indispensable to Brendan Rodgers's side, especially with their upcoming games in the Champions League next season.

Ferdinand wrote in his column in the Daily Mail: "If I were the Liverpool manager there wouldn't be a moment's doubt about what to do next with Luis Suarez. I'd keep him.

"Leave aside, just for a moment, questions of morality or whether his ban is long enough and what is going on is his head to make him do these extraordinarily bad things.

"Purely and simply from a football perspective, what he does for you on the pitch — and I don't mean biting people - makes him indispensable. And with the season Liverpool have ahead of them, that's truer than ever."

Suarez has insisted that he did not intend to bite Chiellini, stating that he fell into the defender during his side's Group D clash.
