Uruguay and Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been handed a nine-match ban by FIFA for biting Giorgio Chiellini in the recent win against Italy.
The judgement also includes a four-month suspension from football-related activity, which will mean that his club will also be punished for the incident.
"Luis Suarez is suspended for nine matches and banned for four months from any football-related activity," FIFA said in a statement.
"The FIFA disciplinary committee has decided that Suarez is regarded as having breached article 48, paragraph one, of the disciplinary code and article 57 which is an act of unsporting behaviour towards another player."
Suarez, who has been fined around £66,000, has also been prohibited from entering any football ground for the duration of his nine-match international suspension.
Should the controversial striker remain a Liverpool player next season, he will be ineligible to play for the Reds until November 1.
