Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has described himself as his "own biggest critic" after Saturday's 4-1 defeat away to Arsenal.

Mignolet came under fire earlier in the season, but has seen his fortunes improve after turning in a number of assured displays to help the Reds up to fifth in the Premier League.

However, consecutive defeats to Manchester United and the Gunners have left Brendan Rodgers's men seven points adrift of the final Champions League spot, and Mignolet explained how he tries to improve after every performance.

"You always try to take the positives and negatives out of the game. I'm my own biggest critic and you analyse your games in a critical way together with the goalkeeping coach," he told the club's official website.

"You see afterwards what you could have done better. At certain moments, you have to make a save - in the first 10 minutes [against Arsenal] I tried to keep the clean sheet, but unfortunately it didn't happen.

"Your own individual performance always comes second best and you don't really want to think about that too much because it's about winning games and making sure, together with the team, you're getting the performance that you want."

Rodgers's men return to action when they travel to Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup on Wednesday.
