Who will be the next Liverpool manager?

:Headline: Who will be the next Liverpool manager?: ID:27627: from db_amp
Despite only being sacked this afternoon, a large number of managers have been linked with replacing Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool. Here, Sports Mole brings you the early contenders.

Liverpool's owners brought an end to Kenny Dalglish's second spell in charge of the club this afternoon.

Within minutes of the 61-year-old's departure, the bookmakers had already released the latest odds on who will be the next man to take over the Anfield helm.

Here, Sports Mole brings you the five contenders that are believed to be early candidates for the role.

Roberto Martinez

It would be fair to say that Martinez's stock has risen over the last two seasons. The Spaniard turned down Aston Villa last year because he is believed to be seeking a bigger job, which the Liverpool vacancy certainly is. Should the club's owners plump for the current Wigan Athletic boss, it would be very unlikely that he would say no.

Odds: 5/4

Rafael Benitez

There is a saying in football that claims you should never go back. However, Benitez is said to be open to the prospect of returning to Anfield, having been sacked by the previous regime in 2010. The Spanish boss, who is currently out of work, is fondly remembered by the red half of Merseyside for guiding the club to their fifth European Cup in 2005.

Odds: 2/1

Frank Rijkaard

At times, Dalglish's style of football was called into question. The same cannot be said of Dutch coach Rijkaard, who oversaw the start of Barcelona's European dominance for five years up until 2008. Despite being coach of the Saudi Arabian national team, Rijkaard is believed to be keen on a return to club football.

Odds: 6/1

Andre Villas-Boas

Those that are close to Villas-Boas have suggested that the Portuguese coach believes that he has unfinished business in the Premier League following his short stint in charge of Chelsea. His current unemployed status may appeal to Liverpool's owners, who would not have to pay any compensation for his services.

Odds: 12/1

Brendan Rodgers

Rodgers received high praise for the football that his Swansea City side played during their debut season in the Premier League last time out. Appointing the Northern Irishman would represent something of gamble for the club. However, his style of play would almost certainly please the Liverpool faithful.

Odds: 16/1
