John Aldridge has declared that Liverpool have to move on quickly from Raheem Sterling after Manchester City reportedly agreed a fee for the winger.
Reports have suggested that the Reds have agreed to sell the 20-year-old to Manuel Pellegrini's men for £49m following a protracted saga involving the player and his agent Aidy Ward.
Aldridge is adamant that it is best for both parties to get the deal resolved quickly so they can move forward.
When asked if he was taken aback by the news, Aldridge told Sky Sports News: "No surprise at all, it was only going to be a matter of time.
"It's best that the club moves on and the player moves on after what has gone on before today. It's not been nice, it's not been pleasant from Liverpool Football Club's point of view and from a fan's point of view.
"I'm just glad the saga has been done and dusted to be honest."
Sterling joined Liverpool from Queens Park Rangers in 2010.
