Liverpool reportedly want Manchester City midfielder James Milner on a free, if his negotiations for a new contract break down.
However, the Merseyside club could allegedly face competition from Arsenal, who are also rumoured to want to sign the England international.
The 28-year-old is among the list of players that City want to keep but they could face losing him to a Premier League rival if he decides not to stay.
City boss Maunel Pellegrini has expressed how important player Milner is to the club.
"I think they are continuing to have conversations and we hope he'll arrive at it soon," the 61-year-old said, according to The Express.
"I always say he's a very important player for us. He always make a contribution whether he starts or comes on."
Milner cost City £26m in the summer of 2010, in a player-plus-cash deal from Aston Villa that saw Stephen Ireland move in the opposite direction.
