Real Madrid and Barcelona are reportedly both interested in signing Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold in the near future.

The 25-year-old recently celebrated two decades on the books of his boyhood club, having joined the Reds' academy as a six-year-old in 2004.

Alexander-Arnold has been the undisputed first-choice option for Liverpool at right-back since making his debut for the first team in 2016.

The England international has featured over 300 times for Jurgen Klopp's side, with the player set for a new era under the leadership of Arne Slot this season.

As well as a Premier League title in 2020, Alexander-Arnold has also lifted the Champions League, FA Cup and two EFL Cups for the Merseyside club.

Real Madrid, Barcelona 'monitoring' Alexander-Arnold

According to The Sun, both Real Madrid and Barcelona are keeping a close eye on the situation of Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool over the next few months.

The report states that both Los Blancos and the Catalans would make a high-profile swoop for the services of the right-back if the opportunity arose.

Entering the final 12 months of his current deal at Anfield, Alexander-Arnold could leave on a free transfer during the summer window of 2025.

The 29-time international is supposedly open to a departure from Liverpool, although he is currently in talks over renewing his terms on Merseyside.

It is understood that the Reds are confident that they can convince Alexander-Arnold to stay put in the Premier League, resisting tempting offers from Real Madrid and Barcelona.

End of an era at Liverpool?

While one new era commences at Liverpool in the managerial hotseat, another could be coming towards its conclusion over the next 12 months.

All of Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah will see their current deals expire at the end of the 2024-25 Premier League season.

While Van Dijk and Salah are more likely to exit, it is understood that Liverpool's academy graduate is edging towards committing his long-term future to the club.

The Reds are reportedly making progress in talks with Alexander-Arnold over a new contract, with Slot viewing the right-back as a candidate to be captain should Van Dijk depart. body check tags ::
